Music Technology is a subject that covers the production and business of music, this includes operating recording studios and equipment, performing using technology, live sound and industry based research tasks.
We offer two course at Ashton Sixth Form College; BTEC Certificate/Subsidiary Diploma (equivalent to one AS/A Level) and the BTEC 90 Credit/Extended Diploma (equivalent to three AS/A Levels).
The BTEC Certificate/Subsidiary Diploma provides an introduction to Music Technology covering the basics of studio recording, sequencing and music industry, with optional routes of study in the second year including DJ performance and advanced recording techniques.
The BTEC 90 Credit/Extended Diploma provides a deeper insight into the subject covering the same content as the Certificate/Subsidiary Diploma alongside units covering acoustics, arranging & composition, technology in performance and project planning and delivery.
Ashton Sixth Form College has a fully equipped professional level recording facility, state of the art Mac labs running Logic Pro sequencing software and a wide range of additional instruments and technology available for use by the students. These facilities can be used independently by students once they have demonstrated a basic level of proficiency. These facilities are maintained and supervised by experienced technicians.
The Music Technology department has excellent progression rates into related Higher Education and industry specific employment.
